The actor who had offensive messages left on his answerphone is now sitting pretty after getting another call - inviting him to take a job on the most famous street in Britain.
Scriptwriters are furiously writing Andrew Sachs into Coronation Street, where he'll apparently play the brother of shop assistant and resident nosey parker Norris Cole.
The former Fawlty Towers star has become the man of the moment following the Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand prank call saga, which has sent his public profile soaring.
Before Manuelgate, few people under the age of 30 had heard of Sachs, whose workload had been reduced to a trickle of minor acting roles, including playing a paedophile in ITV police drama The Bill.
But the furore surrounding the public airing of his Gothic granddaughter's relationship with the indiscreet Brand has seen Sachs become a PR benefactor of a showbiz farce comparable to a Fawlty Towers script.
It goes to prove that nearly all publicity is good publicity.
And that was no better demonstrated than when Sachs stumbled onto the stage to a rapturous applause at the recent Prince Charles 60th birthday comedy bash, appearing in the Manuel guise that first made him famous.
