A Christmas theme park in Dorset has been mauled by the media following attacks on staff by angry visitors and a flood of complaints on social networking site Facebook.
Lapland New Forest near Bournemouth promised families a winter wonderland of snow, lights, reindeer, an ice rink and huskies.
But visitors were greeted by little more than a Glastonbury-style mud fest decorated by tacky fairy lights with two-hour queues to see Santa and a number of pathetic attractions which were out of action.
Angry customers physically attacked staff, including Santa himself, but the fatal blow to the attraction came courtesy of social media site Facebook.
Disgruntled visitors in their thousands joined Facebook groups set up to vent their anger at the attraction, including groups such as Lapland New Forest Is A Rip-Off- Don't Go,Lapland New Forest is Rubbish And Not Worth £25 and Lapland Letdown.
The mudbath then turned into a PR bloodbath for the park when it grabbed the national news headlines, branding it nothing short of a glorified car boot sale.
The story is a perfect demonstration of the power and speed of the new social media and how they give customers a louder collective voice. It also serves as a serious warning to other companies that let their customers down that they too no longer have a place to hide.
