A slip of the tongue during a press conference in the Democratic Republic of Congo has left Hillary Clinton's reputation in tatters after a translator unintentionally hit a raw nerve, suggesting that her husband's opinions were more important than her own.
The US Secretary of State lost her cool when she was asked what Mr Clinton thought about a political issue affecting the African country; the actual question was intended to enquire about president Barack Obama's views.
Clinton looked clearly rattled when she responded by telling reporters that her husband was not the Secretary of State, but she was.
Her outburst subsequently appeared on TV news networks across the world and couldn't have come at a worse time for the former president's wife, with rumours spreading that she's increasing being marginalised by the Obama administration.
It also comes just days after husband Bill scored an extraordinary diplomatic coup on a visit to North Korea by securing the release of two detained American journalists.
Some commentators have defended Clinton's reaction on account of the fact she was visiting the country to discuss its appalling lack of women's rights.
However, few in the PR industry would agree. Notwithstanding the potential harm to the US administration, Clinton has exposed vulnerabilities that will make her an obvious target for the media in months and years to come.
