Max Clifford's pay packet became the hot topic in the PR profession, after the publicity guru headlined an industry event in Manchester for a fee rumoured to be a staggering £10,000.
Nice work if you can get it. But was Clifford worth the exaggerated appearance fee of a Hollywood A-lister?
Perhaps not so, judging from the reaction of many of the delegates who attended the third Business North West event, a recent B2B extravaganza held at Manchester Central.
According to reports, the speech was hardly groundbreaking and few guests said they had learnt anything they didn't know already.
If that was the case, how is it that Clifford's appearance proved to be such an enormous hit?
Quite simply, people were lured to the exhibition not by what he had to say, but instead by who he was.
Yet people still criticised Clifford for telling them the obvious- that celebrity sells and that you should use a celebrity endorsement to sell every product.
But Clifford certainly made a point to anyone who questioned his celebrity appearance fee. After all, celebrity did sell and Clifford's endorsement of this event had them showing up in their thousands.
