A Prince Charles campaign to fight climate change has got the green light from the public after the prince became the first Royal to use a social network to raise awareness of a worthy cause.
The heir to the throne turned to Web2.0 as a way of boosting awareness of his Prince of Wales Rainforest Project by creating a digital campaign urging MySpace users to join his fight against rainforest destruction by electronically signing an online petition.
The prince also created a YouTube video, highlighting the global implications of ignoring the destruction of our rainforests, which invited viewers to join the campaign.
And the Prince of Wales used the best PR tools at his disposal by drafting in the help of celebrity guests to appear in the video, including Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Joss Stone, the Dalai Lama and his two sons Princes William and Prince Harry.
But the star of the show was a computer animated frog, which both injected life into the video and gave added significance, as the frog is a species in particular threat from rainforest destruction.
And no-one summed up social media power to influence people more than Prince Charles himself.
He said that one of the great strengths of the internet was its ability to enable diverse communities to come together to ensure that everybody's views and actions could really be made to count.
