Hats off the Matt Grayson, head of comms at Wolverhampton Wanderers, for his great response after it emerged that a builder had spelled out the nickname of arch-rivals Birmingham City in paving around the Molineux Stadium.
The story apparently came to light after a video claiming responsibility was posted on YouTube from a fan known as ZuluPavingUK.
The film was taken outside the turnstiles to the Jack Harris stand used by the Wolves faithful and affectionately known as the South Bank. It showed the paving in a Herringbone-type pattern and spelled out the letters to make up the word 'Blues'.
ZuluPavingUK boasts that the 60 sq. ft tag has been laid for 10 years and mocks Wolves fans because nobody noticed it. The cheeky brickie has also put a gag in the film suggesting Wolves' new club sponsors should be Specsavers.
Grayson, the head of Communications PR and Marketing, simply said it wouldn't come as a big surprise to Wolves fans that they walked over the opposition at Molineux.
What a great retort! It's light-hearted and only adds to the sense of banter that goes on between Wolves and one of its local rivals, which is the essence of what good-hearted football rivalry is all about.
And with any luck the Wolves team can do the talking on the pitch and put the story to bed if they can beat the Blues when they visit Molinuex for a top of the table clash at the end of the month.
