An internet retailer is laughing after grabbing the headlines with a comical new Christmas wrapping service for men, which is intentionally a shambles.
Firebox.com, which sells gadgets and fun gifts, has just launched CrapWrap- an ingenious shoddy alternative to its standard wrapping service, so that men can give the impression that they've given their present the personal touch.
The online store came up with the idea because many women noticed that their gift was impeccably presented and suspected that the sender had not taken the trouble to wrap it themselves.
The company cherry-picked 20 of its very worst present-wrapping talent from its male warehouse staff and gave them a brief to wrap presents as quickly as possible to ensure they make a spectacular pig's ear of it.
The £3.95 service will guarantee your gift is wrapped to the lowest standards, featuring rips, tears and crooked corners, clumsily stuck together with brown parcel tape in industrial quantities.
The packaging also includes a coffee-stained CrapWrap sticker to reassure recipients that the shameful presentation is just a gag.
The service has already proved a great success, with more than 500 customers using it in the first week.
But the true merit of this perfectly timed PR stunt is how it has captured the imagination of the national press and TV.
The media coverage is sure to stimulate interest in the retailer, which can now look forward to a significant boost in sales.
