An unemployed languages graduate has become a shining example of the power of publicity by scooping his first job with a leading development consultancy after hanging a giant version of his CV from Trafalgar Square's fourth plinth.
Alex Kearns, a graduate at Swansea University, spotted an opportunity to make his CV really stand out by securing an hour-long slot to occupy the fourth plinth as part of Antony Gormley's One & Other Project.
The 23-year-old from Kingston-upon-Thames had made scores of unsucessful job applications since completing his degree with a 2:2 in French and Italian.
But when his publicity stunt made the national newspapers in July, several companies immediately approached Kearns to offer him an interview.
And now Kearns has bagged himself his first job as a sales executive at the London offices of International Business Development Group on the back of his Trafalgar Square appearance.
Kearns explained how he'd applied for hundreds of jobs but nobody had given him a chance.
But he said his moment in the media spotlight had worked and that his new boss was impressed with his get-up-and-go.
It perhaps comes as no surprise that Kearns landed a job in sales after displaying keen marketing instinct and demonstrating how getting the attention of the media can pay massive dividends.
